Abiding Joy-Security (John 15:6)

MPS: God is glorified by those abiding in Christ. He secures them, answers their prayers, and gives joy. (15:6-11)

God secures those who abide in Christ. (6)

6 If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.

What does abide mean?

To abide in Christ means to keep up a habit of constant close communion with Him, to be always leaning on Him, resting on Him, pouring our  hearts to Him, and using Him as our Fountain of life and strength, as our chief Companion and best friend. To have His words abiding in us, is to keep His sayings and precepts continually before our memories and minds, and to make them the guide of our actions, and the rule of our daily conduct and behavior.” (J.C. Ryle)

-Abiding includes dependence upon Jesus.

-Abiding includes praying to Jesus.

-Abiding includes meditating, reading, and studying His Word.

-Abiding includes obedience to what Jesus teaches.

What are we secured from and why?

-We are secured for eternal life and from destruction. (Jn. 3:15-19)

-Those who don’t abide in Christ are separated from God and destroyed. (Jn. 15:6)

-Man naturally rebels against God, but God supernaturally saves His people.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rm. 3:23)

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Rom. 5:8)

How are we secured?

Jesus secures for His people eternal life, righteousness, and forgiveness through His life, death, and resurrection.

-Jesus saves His people from God’s judgement by taking on their sin upon Himself and being crushed for it.

Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith”(Rom. 3:24-25)

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2Cor. 5:21)

Who secures us?

-God secures His people as His divine plan by sending His Son to live a perfectly obedient life, dying on the cross, and being raised back to life
