Dig Bible Study! Learn how to study the Bible

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Someone once told me that it’s better to teach a man to fish than to feed him for a day. God has blessed us at The Grove with many good Bible teachers; men and women who are dedicated to sharing the truth found in God’s Word. We are thankful and celebrate them as they continue to use their gifts in building up God’s people. In an effort to more thoroughly study God’s Word, we are taking a new approach on Wednesday night Bible Study.

When I was in the Army, I had a couple of Drill Sergeants who helped me adjust the sights on my rifle. They were of great help to someone who had never shot a weapon before. I was then able to hit the target with a fair degree of accuracy. Then I had a Drill Sergeant who took the time to show me how to adjust the sights on my weapon. Now I was equipped with the skills and knowledge to adjust my weapon instead of relying on someone else to do the work for me.

Knowledge and its application are crucial in growing in any area of life. The greatest area of need for the Christian is to grow into maturity in Christ. Ephesians 4 instructs teachers of the word to equip the saints. We are to equip the saints with knowledge and how to correctly apply it, but we also need to equip the saints with skills. Like my Drill Sergeant who taught me how to adjust rifle sights, our goal through the Bible Diggers study is to equip you with the skills to rightly handle the Word of God.

The purpose of a Drill Sergeant is to train and equip Soldiers for combat, making them as deadly against the enemy as possible. Likewise, one purpose of the Church is to equip the body for the work of ministry; to be as dangerous against the enemy as possible. You will be a far greater weapon against Satan as you learn how to better study the Bible, applying it to your life, and teaching others.
